Shawn Nichols Weatherly (born July 24, 1959 in Sumter, South Carolina) is a beauty queen and entertainer from South Carolina. Shawn moved to South Carolina as a child which allowed her to participate in Miss South Carolina USA pageant, which placed her in the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants and subsequently won both titles.
Weatherly first won the Miss South Carolina USA title in 1979, and was the first representative of RPM Productions. She represented her state in the Miss USA 1980 pageant which was televised live from Biloxi, Mississippi. Weatherly won the preliminary competition by a clear margin, as well as all three rounds of the final competition (interview, evening gown and swimsuit). She was the only woman to score above 9.0 in the preliminary rounds, as well as in the swimsuit and evening gown competitions. Her win made her the second woman from South Carolina to win the coveted title.
In July 1980, Weatherly competed in the Miss Universe pageant held in Seoul, South Korea. She again greatly impressed the judges, winning all rounds of competition. Her closest rival was Denyse Nottle of New Zealand, who placed second in the interview and swimsuit competitions, and would eventually be Weatherly's second runner-up.
Weatherly won the Miss Universe crown, making her the fifth Miss Universe from the United States as well as the second from South Carolina. Miriam Stevenson, the only other Miss USA from South Carolina, had won the Miss Universe title in 1954, making South Carolina one of the most successful states in the system.
Weatherly attended Clemson University, Clemson, South Carolina as an Elementary Education major. She graduated in 1982. While at Clemson University, Shawn began to date Dwight Clark one of the Clemson Football players who would later go on to be drafted by the San Francisco 49ers. She is best known for work on the popular television show Baywatch and for the early reality show Oceanquest which had Weatherly swimming with sharks. She was also on a Dukes of Hazzard episode, "Coy vs. Vance." (Interestingly, Catherine Bach, who played Daisy Duke, made her first appearance in the Burt Lancaster murder mystery The Midnight Man, filmed primarily at Clemson University in 1973. Bach played the murdered coed.)
Shawn resides in Newport Beach, California with her husband, Chip Harris and their two children.
